Eye to Ear iTunesIntegration as an art form
The iOS app "Eye to Ear - Gallery of Audible Images" combines sound design, verbal image descriptions and interaction on the iPad to create a new art experience that conveys exhibits auditorily in a completely new way. The app enables blind and visually impaired people to participate more fully in cultural events. In addition, it creates a new intuitive and highly exciting access to paintings, drawings and photographs for people without visual impairments. The key lies in the combination of linguistic description and a sophisticated interaction and sound design that enables users to explore individual zones acoustically. It turns out that the synthesis of language and sound opens up a much broader spectrum at the threshold between cognition and intuition than descriptions alone can.
The app is based on Verena Blöchl's and Katharina Götzendorfer's findings on inclusion in the field of art; the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien participated as a content partner with curatorial expertise in the context of the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition.
