On February 1, 2024, Johannes Kepler’s final residence in Regensburg reopened with a newly designed, modern exhibition following extensive renovation. Developed in collaboration with Kepler expert Pablo von Frankenberg and the architecture firm merz merz, the exhibition explores Kepler’s life and work. Traditional exhibits such as books and historical instruments have been enhanced with interactive elements, creating a more engaging museum experience.
At the heart of this digital experience is the app developed by NOUS. Visitors immerse themselves in Kepler’s world – narrated from his own perspective. With automatic location and object recognition, the story unfolds intuitively, without requiring constant attention to a smartphone. Audio tracks are triggered upon entering each room, enabling seamless storytelling. Minimalist design and subtle animations support the eyes-up principle, fostering an immersive listening experience. “Learn more” sections provide deeper insights into Kepler’s legacy.
The app sets new standards for accessibility: A dedicated DGS mode provides content in sign language, while adjustable font sizes ensure optimal readability. NOUS designed and implemented the interactive elements – beacons automatically trigger the audio guides, while the app narrates the museum experience from a first-person perspective. Thanks to the flexible NOUS Headless CMS, museum staff can update content independently. The app is available in German, English, and sign language – on in-house devices and free to download from the App Store and Google Play.
This project sets new standards for digital museum experiences in historic buildings.
