WebsiteMaurizio Catellan. NIGHT
From September 10, 2026, to March 7, 2027, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin presents Maurizio Cattelan. NIGHT, the first major solo exhibition in Germany dedicated to the Italian artist. Cattelan was selected by an international jury for the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2026. The exhibition brings together major historical works and new pieces, placing them in direct dialogue with Mies van der Rohe’s iconic architecture.
Maurizio Cattelan (b. 1960) is one of the defining voices of international contemporary art. Using irony, provocation, and often unsettling imagery, his work explores themes such as identity, authority, violence, and historical memory. In NIGHT, the relationships between artwork, space, and audience are also re-examined.
Our approximately 40-minute audio-guided tour in German and English accompanies visitors through the exhibition. An additional approximately 30-minute Easy Language version was developed to provide a more accessible experience. Original music and sound design create an additional acoustic layer, responding to the tension, humor, and unsettling qualities of Cattelan’s work.
