In 2026, Estonia marks the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Lennart Meri’s Hõbevalge (Silverwhite). Meri, who would later become the first president of the restored Republic of Estonia, created a singular work in which history, geography, mythology and imagination converge. To commemorate the anniversary, Silverwhite is reimagined as an immersive exhibition at Tallinn’s Seaplane Harbour.
The exhibition follows the maritime journey of the Ancient Greek explorer Pytheas from the Mediterranean towards the distant north and the island of Saaremaa – perhaps the legendary ultimate Thule. Room by room, the exhibition draws visitors deeper into the ideas and stories of Hõbevalge and towards its dramatic culmination: the impact of the Kaali meteorite, an event that has left a profound trace in Estonian history, mythology and cultural imagination.
Rare museum objects, meteorite fragments, light installations and spatial audio narratives combine to create an experience that does not attempt to explain everything. With NOUS Sonic, sound becomes a spatial and movement-sensitive part of the exhibition, responding in real time to each visitor’s position and movement. Instead, the exhibition invites visitors to listen, move, imagine and discover. Listening becomes an act of exploration.
